Opened for 2 years, business at Wee Family Coffee Shop doesn’t seem to show any signs of slowing down. Operating like in a coffee shop, however, it’s essentially a tze char stall and serves a few creative and traditional dishes. It is located at the tail end (closer to Eunos) of Bedok Reservoir Road and plastered with a bright red sign board, spotting it was a breeze.Wee's Family Coffee Shop (黄家咖啡店): Tze Char At 117 Bedok Reservoir Road

They have an extensive menu with affordable prices. Apart from the regular menu, Wee Family Tze Char do offer family set meals up to 10 pax. You may find out more on their Facebook page.

We arrived there at 7pm on a Sunday evening and to our surprise and fortune, we managed to grab the last available table. The remaining empty tables seen in the picture above were reserved.

Here are the dishes which we ordered for 6 pax.

Handmade Prawn Roll ($12 – medium). One of the best I’ve had! Good amount of fillings with real minced meat (and not paste) and taste great!

My parent’s favourite, Curry Fish Head! This was served with a Cat Fish ($28). The woman that served us used a term which none of us understood until the moment it arrived.

Even though the body of the fish was hidden in the pot of curry, yet it was big enough to satisfy us. To me, the curry gravy was phenomenal! It was rich in coconut milk, fairly spicy yet enjoyable and had great consistency.

Salted Egg Yolk Chicken. Not the best I’ve had as the flavor of the salted egg yolk didn’t give an immediate “kick” but rather a delayed one. Either it was due to the curry I had earlier that over powered it or it was really weak.

Sambal Kangkong ($8). Skillfully stir fried to keep it crunchy and presentable, however, the sambal failed me.

Hot Plate Tofu ($12 – Medium). A classic dish for my family.

Lastly, my dad’s classic dish; Sweet and Sour Pork Rib ($12 – Medium). Surprisingly, my parents enjoyed it very much, but I thought it was just decent. The meat was tender and boneless, however, given a slight crispy crust around the meat would have been an icing on the cake.

Overall, a good dining experience at Wee Family Coffee Shop. Just a note on the pricing as certain dishes are prices for Small and Medium, but not Large. Strange yeah? Remember to clarify before you make your order.
