Tuk Tuk Thai Kitchen (篤篤泰國美食): Authentic Thai Cuisine In Taipa Village, Macau
Virgin trip to Macau (澳门) and what an awesome time it was! Macau is a small peninsula in mainland China, across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. A Portuguese overseas territory until 1999, it reflects a mix of Portuguese and Chinese influences. Its giant casinos and extravagant malls have earned it the nickname, the “Las Vegas of Asia.” Just think of Marina Bay Sands (Singapore) and multiplying its splendor by 10 times.
After our practice at the Macau Olympic Stadium on the second night, we manage to find our way to Taipa Village which is a tourist attraction for their local scene.
Looking for something familiar and suitable, we found this homely eatery: Tuk Tuk Thai Restaurant!
Let’s dive straight into our menu for the night:
Fresh Coconuts for better hydration after our workout!
Crispy Spring Rolls as appetizers. Fully loaded with sliced mushrooms, radish, carrots etc.
Pandan Chicken, came in five, was no exception when I visit a Thai eatery.
Phad Thai was good and authentic. Portion was generous too, so much that we could even ‘lou hei’!
Tom Yam soup and Green Curry Chicken were mandatory too.
However, I still prefer our version served in Singapore. The Tom Yam soup was rather zesty, sour, tangy (you get the point) while the Green Curry was drowned by the coconut milk.
This piece of omelet was the bomb! Thick and fluffy, I thought I was eating a pancake!
For healthier eating, we ordered a plate a of greens – Kang Kong Belacan. It tasted nothing close to belacan, nonetheless it was flavourful.
In essence, serving portion here at Tuk Tuk Thai Restaurant was beyond our expectation as we didn’t manage to finish it. If this was in Singapore, it will probably be gone in 60 seconds!
So if you are here in Taipa Village, be sure to check out this place!
