153) The Lab SG (The Experimentalist): New Hipster Cafe At Jalan Pinang, Bugis
Located along Jalan Pisang (in Bugis) is The Lab cafe. The concept of this cafe revolves around the “Lab” theme where “experiments” take place daily. As the saying goes, “change is the only constant”, that’s what The Lab is all about.
After a casual chat with the owner of The Lab, the highlight of this cafe seems to be their Daily Concoction. Basically it is a healthier beverage option made from fresh fruits, herbs and other good stuff.
This is where the “experiment” begins as the type of concoction is subjected to its availability on the day. In essence, it changes from day-to-day.
I ordered a latte ($5) and the beans used are from my favourite roaster, Dutch Colony and Co.. I was actually tempted to order an additional shot ($0.8), however, one shot sufficed to satisfy my expectations.
Frankly, among all the other cafes that uses Dutch Colony blend, this is possible the best so far.
Check out the syringe for the Iced Latte ($5.5)!
The moment I settled down at my seat came this cute little child. Played with him or her (I can’t tell) for a while before he/her went back to his/her mum. Such a cutie.
Complementing my latte was the Marlenka ($5.9) which is a cake layered with caramel and fine biscuit crumbs. The cake had a good balance of caramel and wasn’t diabetic inducing.
At the same time, crumbs were spread out evenly thus giving a good ‘crunch’ for each mouthful. Double thumbs up for this!
Mains, salads, desserts are available. Basically, they have a full menu with an extensive array of choices. Additionally, they are Halal certified, so it’s another gem for the Muslim community! Wifi is available as well.
Enjoy your experiment!
