113) The Assembly Ground
Located within The Cathay, The Assembly Ground is an extension of The Assembly fashion store which holds many international brands. At the same time, do not be confused by Assembly cafe at Evans road as they are two different cafes.
I like the concept of the cafe as it was laid back, has high ceiling and is quite spacious. There are 64 seats as such group gathering will be feasible.
Initially, I wanted to order the Roasted Beef Melt Sandwich ($16) or Shredded BBQ Pork Sandwich ($15), however, they were all sold out that evening. Leaving me with not much choices, I ordered the Rosti Omelette ($14.5). While my friend ordered the only sandwich available, Portabello Mushroom Cheese ($14.5).
The presentation and aesthetics of the food to me was normal and taste was acceptable. Overall, it wasn’t special and left me a little unsatisfied. Thankfully I had a good company that night. On the other hand, coffee was the saving grace for The Assembly Ground (although it was decent only). They have two blends, namely from Nylon and Common Man Roasters, and I was served the latter for that night.
Overall, it was a ‘pass-able’ visit. I guess I am still willing to give it a shot the next time. The positive side of things is that they are in a mall in town, which is a rare sight.
