Thai Fried Banana (กล้วยแขก) At Golden Mile Complex
Street food delicacies are a rare find in Singapore due to a couple of reasons and mainly for hygiene purposes. Here at Golden Mile Complex (second storey), a small Thailand in itself, was where I managed to find this unappealing yet super-duper tasty Thai Fried Banana (กล้วยแขก). Great snack for anytime of the day!
The only type of banana that is used to make traditional Fried Banana (kluay khaek), is Burro banana which is one of the most common varieties found in Thailand.
So if you are to use the Cavendish bananas, the outcome will be far cry from the intended taste.
Fried Thai Banana are thinly sliced, lightly coated with batter made of rice flour or a combination of rice flour and wheat flour, finely macerated mature coconut and white sesame seeds.
The whole intended purpose of the thin crust is that it doesn’t exceed the banana itself. When asked if this tasted as good as those back in Thailand, Tony would agree to half of that statement. If this to me was that heavenly, I can’t imagine those in the land of smiles.
You got to give it a try if you have not tried it before!
