Rochor Beancurd

One of my favourite spot for traditional beancurd. This outlet is located at Lorong 19 and my alternate choice will be the one at Selegie Road. However, if you take a closer look, the logo may be similar, but the title is different. This outlet spells “Rochor Beancurd” while the one at Selegie Rd has “Original”. In addition, 5mins drive down Sims Ave and you will find  “Rochor Beancurd House” (which has 2 other outlets in Singapore). So which is the original then? Beats me… With little research, I managed to find out a little (not to sure about its credibility though) and the slight differences is due to dispute in family business, thus the separation of shops.

Now to the food itself! I will usually order hot bean curd, you tiao and Portuguese tart apart from other traditional pastries such as the butterfly buns. The bean curd is silky and still retains certain tension that holds up a little before it melts away (as compared to those made from powder which can be drank). In comparison, other outlets’ beancurd tasted a little grainy, but not for Rochor’s.

The you tiao was warm and crispy too. However, the spotlight was on the tart that night as it was super crispy and flaky due to its thinly layered crust! Moreover, the lightly sweetened egg curd was silky smooth which blended really well with the crust.
