Rice & Fries @ Changi Road
Helmed by Chef Ken Chia, who had previous appointments at The Ritz Carlton and The Fullerton Hotel, Rice & Fries is a cafe/restaurant located just a stone’s throw from Kembangan Mrt Station. Do not be fooled by the simplicity of its name, Rice & Fries is all about delicious western fare at attractive and pocket-friendly prices!
This is a perfect spot for a weekend brunch, mid day lunch and after work chillout spot for families, students and young adults.
Simply by looking at the deco and menu, one will be able to sense its chirpy and playful vibe.
On the weekdays, Rice & Fries serves mainly Western cuisine such as Rose Mary Chicken ($11.8), Lamb Shank ($26.8) and All Day Breakfast ($16.8) just to name a few. On top of that, they do offer premium appetizers such as Foie Gras ($10.8), Escargots ($12.8/19.8) and popular desserts like Waffles ($5.8).
On the Weekends and Public Holidays, they have a special set of menu that serves brunch food and including our local delight, Nasi Lemak!
I was here with my usher friends for dessert and drinks after our dinner at the nearby Seng Kee Black Chicken Soup. However, after browsing through the menu, I felt it was mandatory to make another trip down here to try them out!
While my friends had cider and craft beers, I tried out their latte ($4.8) since it was HIGHLY recommended but it turned out otherwise. On the other hand, the chilled alcohol beverages were delightful. We had Ciders by Kopparberg ($12.80) and Duvel ($16.80).
Here were our sides. We had Full Waffles ($10) and B.F.F ($14.80) which was basically four types of fries (Wedges, Thick, Criss-Cross and Truffle) in a basket with four types of condiments to go with. I found it very worth while as the portion was huge!
Last but not least, the cafe is spacious and seats were plentiful in general. Good spot for relatively large group to chill!
