Nana’s Green Tea Cafe

At Plaza Singapura

Facing the rise in trend of coffee drinkers, the founder of Nana’s Green Tea decided to retain and revive the tradition of tea appreciation in Japan by starting a cafe. Till date, Nana’s Green Tea is termed as the ‘Starbucks of Japan’ (in terms of its popularity) and has more than 30 outlets across Japan.

At the same time, I noticed this craze about Matcha and Green tea, ESPECIALLY AMONG LADIES. It baffles me as I can’t appreciate it like how I do for coffee. Perhaps, it is an acquired taste. But why the craze? I guess it has to do with its metabolism boosting and cholesterol reduction properties.

At Nana’s Green Tea, though it is termed as a cafe, however they do have a wide-spread of mains and desserts to indulge.  I was here for their Set Lunch ($13.9) from 11-230pm during weekdays. Probably one of the most affordable and better choices of set lunch around this vicinity.

I had the Cheese Hamburg Curry, mainly to try out the Japanese Curry. The beef hamburg was surprisingly tasty and nicely seasoned. There was the mild flavour of beef and a good meaty texture. The curry wasn’t too heavy on the palate and had the distinct Japanese Curry characteristics.

I ordered Hoji Latte too. Why? I don’t know, but maybe due to its chocolaty colour. Took me a few sip to accustom to it. There was quality in the drink, but like I said, it’s an acquired taste.

While my friend ordered the Chicken Nanban Don with Azuki Latte + ADDITIONAL scoop of “All-Time-Ladies-Favourite” Matcha Ice Cream!

I love the interior concept as it is very spacious and cozy. What attracted me was the “frame” like structures that served as a decor and partition that gave some sense of privacy while dining. Brilliant idea!

Based on this picture, how many male can you spot? I’ve always been trying to prove that Matcha and Green Tea are ladies’ drink.

Overall a pleasant dining experience as it was pocket friendly, great food and had nice ambiance.
