Maple and Market: Cake Specialist 1

[Total: 1    Average: 2/5]

3) Maple and Market

Overall, 3.5/5 for its Ice Mocha. Their choice of dark chocolate gave the mocha a “stronger” taste. This may suit fans of dark chocolate However, the Banana Walnut Cake complimented the beverage. On a side note, a Grande serving would justify its pricing in this neighborhood setting.

Unfortunately, seats are very limited as it’s mainly a big table for communal sitting. Therefore Maple and Market recommends takeaway.

Finally a revisit to Maple and Market, but this time was simply touch and go as I was there to get some cakes for a gathering in the evening.

From my impression, apart from the reshuffling of the communal table and shelves, the general concept of the shop stays intact. I am pretty impressed with the meticulous and conscientious effort in the layout of the shop and also in the cakes that Sarah bakes.

Despite the lack of sitting space here, Maple and Market actually caters for many occasions such as wedding, birthday and many more. On top of that, they do wholesale to other cafes too! I am sure that you have come across cafes that conduct coffee tasting classes and own their own roasters. Maple and Market does it too, however instead of coffee, they own a bakery and conducts baking classes. You may check out THIS link for more information.

More on the cakes now.

Maple and Market makes their pastries affordable such that with $20, I was able to get 3 cakes and a tiramisu. Among the cakes, my favourite was the Gula Melaka Cake with Kaya Cream Cheese Frosting and Caramalized Almonds. It sure is a mouth full of words, but also a mouth full of flavour! Personally, I found it a little too dense and dry, perhaps it wasn’t intended to be kept in the fridge?

The tiramisu was the main highlight for me. Frankly, I’ve not tasted many tiramisu before, but this stood out among the rest. On many occasions, other tiramisu would be a little too moist, too sweet or lacked in coffee flavour, but Maple and Market balanced them nicely.

Definitely worth the trip here and do consider takeaway as an option!
