Lik Ming Laksa
I ended a coaching session at 1130am in Toa Payoh and thought that I should explore this area a little more since I seldom visit this part of Singapore.
Managed to find this hawker center in Toa Payoh Lorong 4. I always believe that there are hidden gems in hawker centers, especially in such an old estate in Singapore.
Today, I spotted Lik Ming Laksa. So what caught my attention? Firstly, it didn’t have any queue and I don’t believe in the theory of having a queue = good food! Secondly, there were quite a few accolades and lastly, it had that old school feel (at least that’s how I perceived it).
I went ahead with my order with additional noodles ($3) and carried on with my stuff such as asking questions and taking photos. I was right about the old school feel! The couple that is serving currently is the second generation. After posting it on my IG (@lepakwithyaops), my friend commented that his wife’s relatives are the stall owner. What coincidence!
Presentation of the laksa was nice. It had some redness from the chilli and had that creamy look from the coconut milk. The dried shrimps were nicely minced thus gravy wasn’t grainy, while the tau pok was fluffy. Overall, taste was not too bad, but would have preferred the gravy to be a little thicker. Probably about 15% more should work well for me. Nevertheless, it was a tasty bowl of simple pleasure!
After this, I carried on exploring the area and found a couple of interesting food places which I NEED to visit!
