KL Delights Seafood Restaurant: Seafood Delights At Geylang Lorong 27
Tze Char (Zi Char) dining holds significance to me as it represents family time and togetherness through comfort food. Keeping up with times and to satisfy modern taste buds, cooking methods and flavours have evolved with influence from different cuisines. With a wider selection of dishes, taste consistency and service speed need to match up, and that’s what KL Delights Seafood Restaurant is capable of.
With more than 3 years in the F&B industry, KL Delights has since moved from Toa Payoh to the current Geylang Lorong 27, which is next to Ho Kee Pau.
What drew me was their Crab Promo of $38 for 2 (500-600 grams each) at any flavors, as long as it’s the same for each set. Not only was the price attractive, they have 11 cooking methods to choose from! How crazy is that?! The usual price is about $68/kg that should come with larger sizes.
While I heard that the promo ends in Oct, however, it seemed to have extended for a longer period. Do contact them ( +65 8363 3340) before heading down.
Taking advantage of the promo with my family, we ordered 3 sets of crabs (6 in total): Salted Egg, Black Pepper and Chilli Crab.
Black Pepper – Although I enjoyed them, yet I found it a little too peppery. On the flip side, my parents really enjoyed them. The gravy was viscous and coated every inch of the crab, which is one of my criterion for good black pepper crab. The best I had tasted was at House of Seafood where the blend of peppery blast and hint of sweetness were nicely balanced.
Chilli Crab – Close to the authentic flavor, however, the tomato concentrate (or ketchup) was dominant and we all agreed on this. Of course, fried mantou was mandatory with chilli crab.
Salted Egg: This was my favorite among all 3 flavors. It was lightly coated with sugar together with intense salted egg. Indeed a good marriage of Sweet and Savory.
Other dishes which we ordered:
Claypot Beancurd: Gravy’s flavor and texture were acceptable and the egg tofu was silky smooth and soft!
Preserved Turnip Omelette: Cooked with generous portion of Chai Po, thus was too salty for me. I’m certain chai po fans will love it!
Vegetables: Baby Kai lan and Brinjal (Egg Plant).
KL Fried Hokkien Noodles: This was the bomb!!! Fully coated in black sauce, sliced pork, prawns and generous portion of pork lard. This is a must-try during your visit!
Last but not least, Marmite Chicken. What you are seeing is their large serving. Fragrant, deep-fried and thickly coated with Marmite, but it came to a point where I was jelak of it. Either the portion was just too much (not forgetting the other dishes) or simply due to its intense flavor.
Overall, I’ve got one word to describe KL Delights: INTENSE! Flavors here are heavy just like any typical Tze Char found in Malaysia. After tonight, I am definitely one step closer to my visit at the cardiologist, but it was worth it!
