71) I am Cafe
Familiar phrase…that’s right it’s from Amsterdam! The owner decided to bring the love of Europe in particular Amsterdam back here and is the only Halal European-Influence Cafe in town.
Locating at a prominent spot, it’s situated right at the entrance of Haji Lane which is next to North Bridge Road and near Bugis mrt. I was there around 230-345pm and the crowd just kept coming in. The cafe is not enclosed, therefore there is constant flow of wind. Unfortunately, I was seated along the corridor and in a humid and sunny island, half the time the wind was warm and moist. It would have been nice if I had a seat right under the fan.
I like the design and concept of the cafe and the staffs were energetic and approachable. Despite being a small cafe, I was surprised by the number of manpower (close to 10 including chefs) around.
During my time there, their burger seems to be a hot favourite item. As for myself, I ordered a latte (served with double shot of ristretto), but it was so disappointing. Served with confidence and enthusiasm, but coffee was strongly lacked in body, fragrance and flavour yet it cost $6.05 (inclusive of tax). This the most expensive cup of latte I ever had.
Overall, I’m quite disheartened as it’s difficult to find a nice cuppa in Singapore. Till date, there are less than 10 cafes (out of the 71) that I will revisit. I will come out with my Top 10 cafes when I hit…maybe 100th? So stay tune!
