147) Hyde & Co.: English Inspired Cafe At North Bridge Road
Nestled in the midst of Kampong Glam (Bugis/Lavender area) district and adding to the cafe craze is Hyde & Co., an English inspired cafe. To say that there are too many cafes in Singapore is an overstatement as there are certain districts that lacks in cafes, even still no sight of any.
Hyde & Co. is probably the first to introduce crumpets in Singapore or at least among the cafes here. So what is a crumpet? (Disclaimer: I have no intention of offending, or misinform etc.). It is something like griddles and English muffins, but definitely not the likes of McGriddles.
Basically, crumpet has a spongy texture, full of nooks and crannies for absorbing melted butter and other delicious toppings.
At the same time, Hyde & Co. has an extensive menu of tea and coffee to go along with your crumpets and pastries.
The food menu here basically revolves around crumpets and I had the set of 2 ($5.5) with banana ($1) as add-on.
Every set of crumpets comes with maple syrup and butter. Accompanying it was a cup of latte ($5.5) – served with double shots.
It had a nice fluffy and soft texture, however, I have no benchmark for it. Unfortunately, my crumpets weren’t warm enough for the butter to melt. At the same time, I guess for a healthier choice, the butter served was un-salted (but it tasted a little like margarine).
Nevertheless, Hyde & Co. offers a refreshing touch and is a uniquely themed cafe in the midst of this developed district. WiFi is available too.
