119) Flee Away Cafe
Lately, it seems like the outspread of cafes from Jalan Besar has reached to areas such as Little India, specifically Dunlop Street! This is the latest addition cafe together with Rouse and Temporium (but it’s either under renovation or has withdrawn).
Hidden among old shophouses and narrow walkways, Flee Away brings a fresh and rejuvenating vibe to that area. Simply by its sign board and decoration, one will be able to identify that Flee Away is all about old school, fun and playfulness!
As you enter, you will notice a pair of movie couple seats that faces the entrance. So while enjoying your cuppa, you may enjoy a free movie titled “Life”.
Moving on, you will notice acrylic boxes on the left side of the wall. These are Display Boxes which you may rent at $30-50/month, and display items for sale! So new blog shop owners, you may want to consider this as an option!
Other than that, Flee Cafe is also filled with old school board games, comics, toys and gadgets! Essentially, this cafe really brought me back to the 1980s. The thrill of finding these ‘old’ relics reminded me of my childhood as these were the items that I grew up with!
Diving in to the food menu, I was delighted to see food names which I’ve never expect to be found in a cafe. I ordered a Char Kuei, which is You Tiao. Yes, I am referring to You Tiao that is paired with Soya Bean. However, the only difference is that they serve it XXL over here to accommodate stuffing!
I ordered a Curry Chicken Char Kuey ($12.5) and it came with a portion of salad and a cup of mini Papadum! How cool is that! It’s literally 4 ethnics cuisine in 1 dish. More importantly, this unpretentious dish was pleasing to the palate, fills the tummy and not overly priced! I also ordered a Latte with Robusta beans from Italy and served in a old school Kopi cup ($5). If you like coffee with bitterness that hits you immediately, this cup is for you.
In summary, Flee Away is an all rounder cafe as they have WiFi, power plug, games, food, drinks and retail. Want to hear more? Students, be sure to have your student pass with you as you will enjoy a 10% of the total bill!!! Woo Hoo!
