Encik Tan Halal Food Stall
Since its opening at Kallang Wave Mall, Encik Tan (Halal certified eatery) has been a bit hit among Muslim community. With family history in the food business (noodles), Mr Tan Kim Leng (37 years old) took on the laid out path, but with a twist by serving local cuisines that welcomes the whole community.
Despite long queues, service was relatively swift as they have two separate counters, one for noodles while the other for beverages and the remaining dishes. So while the the order is being keyed in, preparation of the dish is done concurrently.
Each of us had these for dinner: Chicken Cutlet Noodle ($5), Popiah ($2.5) and Toast set ($3.70).
I like the mildly springy texture of the noodle and the chicken was just fine, however, despite added noodles, that’s all I’ve got. Ethical? You decide.
Next up was Popiah, my favourite dish as fillers. Why? Because it is affordable, taste good, healthy and portion is just right. Having said that, it tasted decent and came in standard portion.
Lastly, this was our finisher! Kaya-butter toast set! Although it wasn’t crispy and was a little warm, but the decent spread of kaya and portion of butter sealed the deal for me.
Rounding up the meal was two protein packed eggs!
Encik Tan is definitely a decent and cheaper alternative compared to the rest of the restaurants in Kallang Wave Mall. By spending approx. $12 per pax, we were really filled and managed to have 3 different dishes coupled with a beverage. Moreover, it was in the comfort of an air-conditioned premise.
