First travel log post, however, I will keep it of food and café! Had a long-awaited holiday to Japan from 19-27th Oct 2015 and it was by far THE best holiday I’ve ever had. It was Autumn nearing Winter, therefore temperature ranged between 1-8 degrees at night and 10-15 degrees during day time.

So first stop was from Singapore to Narita Airport and took a shuttle service to Haneda Airport for my domestic flight to Chitose Airport (Sapporo). Total duration was close to 15 hours.

While at Haneda Airport, I had the Mount Baumkuchen at Nenrinya Cafe a popular brand for this delight. Baumkuchen is a German word which means “tree cake”.

This is seen by the rings within this Japanese variation of spit cake.

This resembles our local delight “Kueh Lapis”, doesn’t it? It is more firm and dense than Kueh Lapis and less oily too.

There seemed to be a couple of flavours available and I guess I had the original/plain one? Btw, the Gelato (white sphere on the right) was amazingly rich, milky and smooth!

Came night fall and finally arrived at ANA hotel for the night after a 1.5 hours of bus ride from Chitose Airport. Had my dinner with my cousin at Hanacyan (女将二代目 はなちゃん), a traditional Japanese eatery which is a stone throw away from Sapporo Station.

As we made our way into the eatery, the silence was broken with a warm and sincere greeting (in Japanese) and served with warm towels to freshen ourselves.

Language was a huge barrier between us and the waitress, but thankfully there were pictures on the menu. Phew…We ordered the horse meat (JPY 580 = SGD 7) on hot plate, Gyoza (JPY 880 = SGD 10.5) and noodles (JPY 580 = SGD 7).

The horse meat was sprinkled with black pepper and salt, and though it looked raw, yet was fibrous and firm. It was matched made in heaven the moment I paired it with plain rice!

After dinner, we went to 7 Eleven in search for dessert to satisfy our sweet tooth. Check out this corn shaped ice cream and chunky cookie ice cream (JPY 250 = SGD 3)!

Mind you, it was about 6 degrees that evening, yet Ice Cream was on our minds! Contrary to popular belief, ice cream actually do taste better in cold weather compared to summer!

Did a little more sight-seeing in Sapporo such as the Sapporo Clock Tower and headed back to the hotel for a good rest for adventure the next day.
