Char Restaurant @ Guillemard Road
During my first knowing of Char’s existence and sight of their Char Siew, it was instantly locked into my memory bank! I believe anyone can make Char Siew, but to make mouth watering and sight engaging Char Siew is a whole different story.
My first ever taste of legendary Char Siew was by Kay Lee along Upper Paya Lebar, however, due to it’s pricing, I never really went back after that encounter. Thankfully, I found Fatty Cheong which is located at ABC Brickswork Food Centre.
Finally, I’ve made my way to Char restaurant and specially bought their Roasted Pork and Char Siew ($20.50 for 450grams) as one of the dishes to go along for dinner. Despite arriving at 630pm while opening hours was at 6pm, there was already a queue and a couple of tables under reservation. Personally, I waited approx. 25mins for my order.
Firstly, what’s unique about Char? Well, it’s a brotherly affair. One other them has more than 15 years of cooking Cantonese food in restaurants in UK while the other is a Vietnamese born UK citizen now turned Singaporean PR. With that, they decided open Char.
Now, what’s SO SPECIAL about their Char Siew? Listen up. It involves 4 types of cooking methods over 2 days for this pork belly before it can reach the customers! Yup, that’s how special it is. I would rather you look at the pictures below and taste it for yourself rather than trying to describe it here.
Lastly, minimum order of 300g at $15 ($5/100g).
