159) Café Coffee Day (Nu Sentral, KL): India’s Biggest Coffee Chain
If you have not known, Cafe Coffee Day (CCD) is liken to coffee chains giants such as Starbucks and Coffee Bean, but in India. Started in 1996 at Bangalore, they have soon burgeon into India’s largest coffee chain with more than 1500 cafes spread across 200 cities/towns across India.
With more than 300,000 guests frequent their cafes across the country daily, Cafe Coffee Day believes in giving back as well. They established the Shankarakudige Veerappa Gangaiah Hegde Education Trust in 2002 as a non-profit trust with the mission of ” Education for All ” and have empowered about 1500 youths till date.
So here I am at the outlet in NU Sentral, Kuala Lumpur. Very much a standard cafe hopping session as well as a “me time” after a busy day with the athletes from North Vista.
Ordered the All Day Breakfast Combo – Muffin and Beverage (RM11.5) set of Chocolate Muffin and Latte.
Coffee served using single origin beans, named as Dark Forest. Described as full-bodied, full of aroma and flavour, it was anything else other than characterized.
Nice chunks of chocolate chips but texture of muffin was a little damped.
A while later, my colleague popped by and got himself a frappe and a cheesecake.
The cake was super-duper dense and we didn’t manage to finish it.
Unimpressed by the standard, but I managed to finish my orders before we left.
To me, CCD seems to be just another mega player in the coffee industry. On hind sight, the positive note is that they priced themselves more competitively than other coffee chains.
