Basil Thai Kitchen (by ThaiExpress)
Newly opened about 3 months ago at the new Kallang Wave Mall, Basil Thai Kitchen is a casual dining restaurant and is managed by ThaiExpress. I love the playful and scribly looking font used for the logo design and the minimalist concept of the interior. At the same time, the ‘Garden’ theme and spot lights exude a relaxing atmosphere similar to a cafe.
Since there were only two of us, thus our food orders were limited. We went for the more popular Thai dishes such as the Mango Sticky Rice ($6.9), Green Curry Chicken ($10.9) and Basil leave with Chilli Chicken ($10.9).
First up, Green Curry Chicken was a mildly sweetened and spicy, and had adequate amount of coconut milk. Overall, it was quite delicious, but not the best I’ve come across.
Next up, Basil leaves with Chilli Chicken. Personally, this is one of the dishes I use as a benchmark for Thai eateries. I’ve come across some that failed terribly and those that were out-of-this world good. In my opinion, Basil Thai Kitchen falls closer to the right of the spectrum. The fragrance of the basil was evident, flavour was tasty, but just a tad too spicy. However, it was those kind of “Shiok Spicy”!
Last but not least, Sticky Mango Rice (Khao Niaow Ma Muang)! Who can resist the temptation of this delectable Thai classic ?! Sweet glutinous rice, with fresh tasting mango smothered with ‘gao gao’ coconut milk, simply heavenly!
You may also enjoy a good view and night stroll along the breezy and scenic waterfront just outside of Basil Thai Kitchen.
